The planning requirements for this selective entry competition were largely predefined entailing a plinth as the central square and four adjoining buildings. The centerpiece of the project is the reinterpretation of an existing high-rise. In this proposal the middle is set free instead of cramming it with a core. The floors are now alternately continuous, creating an actual studio atmosphere in the educational landscape. The individual classrooms are zoned and well lit. Finally, a continuous complex emerges in which people can be seen and sensed, while the banded façades made of white polished artificial stone establish a clear relationship between the individual buildings.

Incorporating these concerns, the way is cleared for a natural urbanistic arrangement, lively architecture for generations to come of interested young persons, who, thanks to the architecture, can also learn in sharing responsibility to shape the future. To support this aim, inner worlds are created that can be experienced every day by the different users such as the students, teachers, and guests. Conceived as a cluster of streets, squares, and buildings, the educational facility portrays the notion of an open school, the platforms and stairs along the inner hall generating a stacked urban space. As the most important actors, students as well as teachers and staff remain visible and can be sensed. Thereby what emerges is an atmospheric quality that is so important for a school and remains a basic requirement for successful doing.
